I feel big feelings and express big emotions. Anyone who knows me would emphatically vouch. Social standards, however, have created an atmosphere of repression in regard to expressing hugely or even thinking outside the lines. Therefore, it has become necessary in today's world to first access that vague recognition somewhere inside us that expressing ourselves and our emotions is a basic human function.
As our bodies constantly burn energy they emit heat. The idea that we should stop doing that so much is nothing short of laughable. Likewise, our bodies constantly feel and in turn emit emotion. The idea that we need to stop that whole process is just as laughable. As a matter of fact, laugh now if you want... no telling what good it might do. The sooner we let out -- as in "allow to be released" -- whatever we're feeling or, better yet, allow out from our minds the ideas creating the feelings in the first place, the sooner we can get back to seeing situations more realistically. Anger, disappointment, envy, or any other form of fear-of-our-needs-not-being-met compresses, stretches, fogs up, and disguises the truth. The irony with the emotion thing is that if we could only see the real, honest truth of the whole situation, we'd see there's nothing to feel at all except contentment and peace.
Most of us would probably like to express our feelings AND have a social circle at the same time. It can be done. There's a difference between going around like a three-year-old banging on a Fisher-Price drum and consciously emoting, expressing, and releasing in a genuine effort to get back to inner peace. Regardless of where we are or what's going on, there's always some way to do a little expressing until we can give it our full attention in a personal environment. I always have a bag of tricks handy for just that reason. Matter of fact, let's see what's in this thing... Okay, we've got a pen, a journal, a few choice expletives here and there, a sound-absorbent pillow, some paint, a brush, a canvas, a car stereo, my favorite CD's, a computer and keypad, a restaurant napkin, and a couple of crayons. As far as what to do with all that stuff in the throes of emotional upheaval... well, I'll just leave that up to you.

Inside The Black and White Book

In 2001 I wrote
The Black & White Book
under the name R.P.Moore.
Finding my message coming full circle time and again to the radical kind
of self-acceptance the book portrays, the link above to the Simon & Schuster
e-book may well be of assistance to those sincerely seeking an emotional breakthrough.
