Moore To Consider - Higher Consciousness - Silence

There is no shortage of info and articles on this site about letting it all out. "It" being whatever is covering up and
clouding over our deep abiding happiness inside... usually turbulent emotions... sometimes disturbing thoughts
that are creating turbulent emotions. Coming to peace and contentment is the goal here and keeping a check on
the negating crap brewing inside is just simply part of the routine maintenance.

One of the jewels I brought with me from my Christian upbringing is the idea that there's a time and a place
for everything. And this holds just as true when we consider the practice of emoting our stuff. It doesn't take too
much foresight to see that throwing a personal tantrum in the middle of the supermarket is not only inappropriate,
it's likely to create even more emotional crap for us. But that falls in category of "place" and what I'd like to look at
in this article falls more in the "time" category... and in the broadest sense of the word.

It's not quite accurate to say that we only learn from our mistakes. We actually learn from experiencing what one
behavior yields as compared to another. As with anything of a sensational nature, we can just as easily become
fixated on the rush of releasing emotions! Therefore, in the grand scheme of our effort to find inner peace,
sometimes the most helpful thing to do is simply be quiet. Sounds simple, I know, but like all things simple, it's not
always easy to carry out. And I'm not just talking about being quiet and calming our nerves for a few minutes...
I'm talking about a prolonged period. Days. Weeks, even.

In the early 90's I attended a Buddhist meditation retreat where we were instructed to remain in silence for the first
48 hours. Here were all these like minds and fresh new faces and none of us could communicate with each other.
Well, not in the traditional sense, anyway. We learned, however, that amid the silence, we were exchanging all sorts
of important shared feelings and commonalities in ways beyond words. A whole powerful realm of intuition and
sensitivity was revealed to us during that valuable exercise.

In recent months, I have experienced an even more substantial period of silence. Okay, not exactly silence 24/7
but substantial daily intervals of remaining completely quiet and self-contained. This was an unexpected effect
which resulted from renting a room in someone's home. After living on a very busy thoroughfare, I had completely
forgotten that streets could be so quiet. And after living among neighbors who cranked their stereos up till 2 AM,
it never crossed my mind that a residence could be so still and silent. As a result, like the residents of this house,
I have become quiet myself.

I suspect that because I've spent so many years extricating the most embedded of my emotional gunk, I'm
actually able to settle into silence rather comfortably lately. (And, hey, don't get me wrong... I still let out heavy,
prolonged animal noises quite frequently in the car as I discuss in this video
.) Still, I've been experiencing things in a
new way of late. A common thread that runs though this site has to do with coming into the moment and asking for
higher guidance. Well, seems that by more or less remaining in a state of quiet reverence, those answers very often
just come... like automatically... without having to ask formally or anything.

Give it a try sometime. If even for a day. Even if it requires heading off alone to a rural area for the day.
Just be with yourself... quietly... without demand or expectation. Just observe. Just listen.
You may find something you lost a while back in all the hubbub.
